Playa Chamán (Colonia Sector)
The heart of surfing and family life in Uvita.
Safe waters, endless shade, and the best local vibe.
Why Visit Uvita Beach?
Officially known as Colonia Sector but nicknamed “Chamán” by everyone, this is the most beloved beach by the local community and Uvita Forest guests due to its proximity and convenience. It is distinguished by its consistent yet gentle waves, making it the area’s “natural surf school.” It is an extremely wide beach with compact sands, ideal for walking or running at dawn. What truly makes it special is its dense line of almond trees and palm trees that reach almost to the sea, offering the best natural shade on the entire Osa coast.

- Surf Trip: If you want to learn to surf, let us know. We have contacts with the best local instructors who teach classes right in this sector due to the safety of its waves.
Strategic Walk: From Chamán, you can walk north along the beach until you reach the Tombolo (Whale’s Tail). It’s a very pleasant 20-30 minute walk with fewer people than the main Uvita entrance.
Multi-use: The ticket you buy here is valid for visiting Playa Ventanas or Playa Piñuela on the same day. Take advantage of it!
