In the plains of the Diquís Delta (south of Uvita) lies one of the greatest mysteries of pre-Columbian American history: hundreds of perfectly round stone spheres, some weighing several tons, carved centuries ago without modern metal tools.
At the Finca 6 museum and archaeological site, you can walk the shaded trails to see these incredible spheres in their original alignment (in situ). You will learn about the sophisticated pre-Columbian culture that created them and hear the multiple archaeological, astronomical, and social theories about their use. A fascinating tour for curious minds and history lovers!
Duration:
1.5 to 2 hours tour (plus 45 min drive each way).

🎒 Host tip: This is the perfect half-day excursion if you’re heading further south (toward Golfito or the border) or if you want a peaceful morning filled with culture away from the water.
Itinerary:
- 09:00 AM: Arrival at Palmar Sur and entry to the visitor center.
09:30 AM: Tour of the indoor museum exhibits to understand the historical context.
10:15 AM: Walk along the sunny trails to admire and photograph the spheres in their natural setting.
11:30 AM: End of visit. Ask us for lunch recommendations in the area!
