Uvita Beach (Marino Ballena National Park)
The crown jewel and the famous "Whale's Tail."
Experience the magic of Marino Ballena National Park and marvel at the most impressive natural spectacle in the South Pacific.
Why visit Uvita Beach?
Uvita Beach is not just a beach; it is the setting for one of the most incredible natural phenomena in the world: the Tombolo or ‘Whale’s Tail.’ As part of the National Park, you will find a pristine environment with no buildings on the seashore, where the jungle embraces the sand. It is the quintessential place to walk for hours, discover crystal-clear pools left by the receding tide, and, of course, take the iconic walk to the tip of the tail, where you will feel the immensity of the ocean on both sides.
Walk to the Tail
It is mandatory to check the tide table before going.
Distance
2.5 km from Hotel Uvita Forest (approx. 6-8 minutes by car or 25 min walking).
Activities
Walk to the Tombolo, Whale Watching (in season), Snorkeling, and Landscape Photography.
Services
Ranger station, restrooms, showers, and regulated parking outside the entrance.
Hotel Tip:
Ask us at reception for the daily tide table so you don’t miss the path to the tail.
- Tickets must be purchased at the SINAC station (approx. $6 for foreigners / ₡1,000 for nationals). The ticket allows you to visit the other park entrances (Colonia, Ballena, and Piñuela) on the same day.
- There are no shops inside. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and an umbrella, as natural shade is far from the tombolo area.
